Digital Television and Movies
Setting up a Digital Home Theatre

Setting Up a Digital Home Theater
You can connect your PC to a widescreen plasma, LCD, or projection HDTV, a standard TV, or a projector and enjoy support for high-definition playback and up to 7.1-channel surround sound.

Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
When loaded with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, your PC is transformed into a digital media center:
  • Watch and digitally record TV
  • Screen your digital home movies and slideshows
  • Enjoy DVDs and streaming digital video in true cinematic quality
The Display Calibration Wizard guides you through configuring your TV signal, display type, and video playback quality. For example, enhanced widescreen support helps optimize your viewing experience by allowing you to toggle among normal, zoom, and stretch video modes. With an optional one-touch remote, you can even setup and control your home theater from your favorite chair.

Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005-equipped computers ship with high-quality TV-tuner cards and allow you to:
  • Discover what is on TV and when, with a no-fee Electronic Program Guide
  • Record up to three live TV shows at a time, and watch them at your leisure
  • Browse movies to record by several criteria
  • Work on other computing tasks while programs record in the background
  • Experience the latest in high definition DVDs and Web downloads
  • Rent and watch on-demand movies
Other Windows XP versions
If your AMD64-based PC runs on a different version of Windows XP, you can purchase and install TV-tuner cards or graphics cards with TV-tuner capabilities from manufacturers such as ATI and NVIDIA. Most TV-tuner cards come bundled with basic software to set up your home theater. Be sure to check your computer’s documentation or consult a computer professional to ensure you select the right card for your system.

(Please note, this guide is only an introductory overview. To achieve optimal results, always follow the manufacturer’s instruction manuals for your equipment and software.)
